Allergen Scanner: Scan Food for Peanuts, Milk, Soy, Gluten & Your Personal Allergens
A food allergy turns every unfamiliar package into homework: the ingredient list, the “may contain” line, the difference between what matters to you and what doesn’t. SkanSure’s allergen scanner does that reading for you. It runs in your browser with no app to install — set your profile once, then scan any barcode.
Your profile is built from Health Canada’s priority allergen list — peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, soy, wheat and gluten, sesame, mustard, sulphites, fish, crustaceans and molluscs, and more. For every scan, SkanSure looks the product up in Open Food Facts, the open crowdsourced food database, and checks three layers against your profile: the allergens the product declares, its “may contain” traces, and matches inside the ingredient list itself, including the alternate names allergens appear under. A strict traces setting lets you treat “may contain” as “contains” if that is how you manage your allergy.
The same scan shows the product’s calories and nutrition facts — per serving and per 100 g, when the record has them — presented as facts only. SkanSure sets no targets and gives no diet advice; it just puts the label numbers in front of you next to the allergen result, with the source and the record’s last-updated date attached to both.
Honesty is built into the result. If a product record has no allergen data, SkanSure says so plainly — it never calls a product “allergen-free” on missing information, and when the data is too thin to decide, the answer is “Unknown” rather than a guess. The exact checking rules are written out on our methodology page.
SkanSure shows dietary label information only — it is not medical advice and does not diagnose or treat any condition. Always check the physical label on the product itself, and talk to your doctor or dietitian about medical questions.
